Food Quality and Safety
You have every right to insist that food producers maintain the highest standards of quality and safety.
This applies not only to the food on your plate, but to the long chain of activities and relationships that lead to that point.
At McDonald’s we closely monitor and oversee our supply chain, including:
- How crops are grown
- How animals are treated
- The respect shown for the environment
Food Quality
Food quality standards begin with the ingredients we use to prepare your favourite McDonald’s products.
McDonald’s menu development staff all over Europe work with Quality Assurance Teams who are technical experts in their field (e.g. beef, bakery, poultry, potatoes) to maintain and improve our stringent quality standards and specifications.
We have our own internal standards and quality system called the McDonald’s Agricultural Assurance Programme for agricultural products such as beef, chicken, dairy, produce and wheat. This system outlines standards for food quality, safety and sustainability. We expect all our suppliers to meet, if not exceed these requirements.
Food Safety
For McDonald’s, food safety is and has always been our first priority. To this end, we have developed our own Food Safety Policy which covers every stage in our operations, from the production of raw materials to the serving of the food in our restaurants.
Each of our main suppliers is audited at least once a year to make sure they are complying with our Food Safety Programme. They are also audited by independent accredited auditing companies annually. In addition, spot checks are carried out throughout the year.
The Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points programme (HACCP) is implemented in all of our restaurants.
