Bio-Diesel

Wouldn’t it be great to know that every time you fill your car with fuel, you are supporting the environment?

We thought so. That’s why, here in Ireland, we will run a test whereby the waste oil from our restaurants will be converted into biodiesel that will be used to fuel the trucks which make deliveries to McDonald’s nationwide. Tests were carried out in 2009 and are still ongoing as to the viability of using spent oil as a biodiesel for our delivery fleet. When our biodiesel test has been completed and if the test is successful and we roll it out, we will have a ‘closed loop’ process; the oil we use in our restaurants will be recycled and used to fuel our trucks.

Why use bio-diesel?

  • It’s so similar to traditional diesel, you can use it as a replacement fuel for nearly everything the ordinary diesel could do.
  • It provides great lubrication so it’s efficient in fuel injectors and reduces wear on engines. This could significantly bring down costs in industry.
  • It’s biodegradable, so it can be broken down by micro-organisms in the natural environment and turned into useful material that’s non-toxic and greenhouse gas neutral.
