McDonald's staff member collecting litter

If you’re anything like us, you’ll hate the sight of litter carelessly discarded in your community.

Our restaurants are very much a part of the community they serve so it’s only natural that we take as much pride in the appearance of the local environment as you do.

Although we can’t always change the behaviour of people who litter, we can use our resources to make it easy for you to dispose of your waste in a responsible way and to keep our community as litter-free as possible.

Litter patrols

You may have noticed McDonald’s staff picking up litter outside our restaurants. That’s because we have been carrying out litter patrols since we first became involved in Ireland in the 1970’s.

Our people pick up not only McDonald’s packaging, but also any litter which has been discarded around our restaurants.

Waste disposal

You can dispose of your McDonald’s packaging in our restaurants or in any of the litter bins that are in their vicinity.

You may have noticed the Tidy Man symbol on most of our packaging. This is an international symbol which encourages people to dispose of their waste carefully.

Sponsored litter bins

Next time you throw your McDonald’s packaging in a bin, it may be one that we have sponsored.

We do this in a number of towns where the local authority operates such a scheme.

National Spring Clean events

April is National Spring Clean month and you’ll see lots of people around the country picking up litter in their area.

Our restaurants get involved in the National Spring Clean programme, a popular anti-litter initiative that encourages everyone to get their gloves on and go litter-picking in their community.
