Range & Type
The chicken in our McChicken™Sandwiches, Chicken McNuggets™, Chicken Legend™ and the chicken in our salads comes from 100 per cent chicken breast.
Animal Welfare
Our suppliers rear all our chickens with room to move around and access to fresh food and water. Our suppliers don’t feed the chickens with antibiotics as growth promoters and we require them to use non-genetically modified feed.
Standards/Controls
The chicken sold in our restaurants in Ireland is prepared and packaged at Cargill Meats Europe and Moy Park. Both companies have EU approved plants and they meet our strict animal welfare, safety and quality control standards. In fact, they carry out over 80 tests and inspections every hour.
Traceability
Our suppliers' traceability processes allow us to identify, The farm the chicken came from, the batch number of the chickens, the supplier of their food, the date of slaughter, the date of further processing and other processing information. So every time you take a bite of McDonald's chicken, you can be absolutely sure that it's of the highest quality.
Making our Chicken items
When it comes to producing chicken for our products, we don’t make any compromises on safety or hygiene. Our Chicken products are made from quality chicken and a blend of ingredients. They’re steam-cooked for safety, coated in batter or crumb (where applicable), par-fried and frozen down to minus 18 degrees Celsius until they’re cooked in our restaurants.
Reduced Salt
We’ve made it a goal to look for ways to make our food healthier without sacrificing any of the great McDonald’s flavour that you love.
For example, in 2005, in Ireland we reduced the amount of salt in our Chicken McNuggets by 30 per cent. And we’ll continue to look for new ways of preparing and cooking our food using less salt.
