Potatoes

Origin & Type

Not every potato is good enough to become McDonald’s golden French fries. That’s why we’re so choosy about the varieties we use. We know you want our fries to be crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and long enough to give you something to chew on. Our supplier, McCain’s, only uses carefully selected varieties of potatoes, such as Russet Burbank and Shepody, which are just the right shape and texture.

Standards/Controls

It’s no secret that good potatoes are the key to great French fries. We’ve known this for years. That’s why we maintain our high standards and quality controls every step of the way. Our suppliers analyse both our potato plants and the soil they grow in to make sure they get just the right amount of water and nutrients. We urge our suppliers to use the most environmentally friendly practices wherever possible.

Traceability

Thanks to the procedures put in place by our supplier McCain’s, we can trace our fries all the way back to the farm where the potatoes were grown. The potatoes arrive at the factory for inspection and if they’re good enough, they are given a wash, peeled using pressurised steam and then McCain’s cut them into that distinctive McDonald’s long lean shape using water currents that push them into knives at nearly 100km per hour
