Tommie

My name is Tommie and I am the restaurant manager in McDonald’s Dungarvan. At 22, this is quite a responsibility but, as the saying goes, if you are good enough, you are old enough. I have been working for McDonald’s for seven years and started off as a crew member.

When I started, I did not see it as a career move but just as a way to get some pocket money and to keep up with the latest fashions and trends. I worked part time while I was in school. I did the Leaving Cert at 16 and then went to college after two years work experience. After six months, I realised that college wasn’t for me and decided to work full time in McDonald’s.

I really enjoy the flexibility McDonald’s gives me. I love to travel and since I have been working here, I have been to New York, Scotland and Dubai. I hope to get the opportunity to travel more in the near future but have just bought my first property so that might have to wait for a while. This has given me a great sense of pride because I know all the hard work I have put in has enabled me to make this purchase.

I started off as a manager in Dungarvan when it first opened and I love the different challenges that I get on a day-to-day basis. There aren’t too many people that can say they have their own property and manage a team of 35 people from 12 different countries. It fills me with a great sense of pride.
