Packaging

Do you ever wonder what happens to the mountains of packaging that we all have to deal with every day?

With a bit of thought and effort, most of it can be either avoided or recycled. At McDonald’s, we think hard about the way we package our food and we make every effort to follow the three golden rules – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Recycling and reduction

The next time you enjoy a McDonald’s meal, take a look at the packaging we’ve used here in Ireland:

  • We use recycled paper in our Happy Meal, sandwich and fry boxes, takeaway bags, takeaway trays, napkins, kitchen rolls and toilet tissue.
  • We’ve reduced the size of our napkins
  • We are planning to reduce the size of our McFlurry™ spoon.
  • We use lightweight straws

Repak

Ever heard of Repak? They help businesses like ours meet our obligations under Irish and EU waste management laws.

We’ve been a member of Repak since 1997 so we make a direct contribution towards Irish recycling and waste management systems.

Tidy Man symbol

The Tidy Man is an international symbol that reminds you to dispose of your waste carefully. We put him on most of our packaging as a sign of our goal of keeping our environment litter-free.
